Rebellion Meets Refinement
Advocatuur opened its doors at Rosewood Amsterdam, housed in the city’s historic former Palace of Justice. Its name, meaning ‘the profession of law’ – nods to the building’s storied past while the concept reimagines the modern hotel bar as a place of cultural convergence. Led by Yann Bouvignies, former Head of Mixology at Scarfes Bar, London, Advocatuur blends heritage with the bold, progressive spirit of Amsterdam. The interiors fuse timeless elegance with eclectic energy – think bespoke rugs, textured walls adorned with portraits by Anton Corbijn.
Discreetly accessed via a canal-side entrance, the bar unfolds across three intimate rooms, each celebrating the Dutch spirit of gezelligheid. Within its speakeasy-style distillery, the house jenever PrØvo is distilled by Master Distiller Alex Davies, paying tribute to the rebellious Provo movement of the 1960s. The cocktail menu, The Will Of The People, playfully contrasts law and liberty, with 15 signature serves that blur the line between precision and provocation. As electro-soul, future funk and neo-soul fill the air, Advocatuur becomes more than just a bar – it’s a statement of character, where Amsterdam’s history and modernity raise a glass to each other in perfect defiance.
